Set starting object?

In the classic email designer, you could add a value to the "Entity settings for campaign signal" and as long as it had a path to the contact, you could use that object as the starting point for your template. Is that possible in the new designer? If so, I can't find where to set that. Or is this an example of where the functionality in the new designer is still behind the older version?
