Question

Excel Data Import file size & row limits

What are the size limits for an Excel file for the data import?

This academy article mentions 50,000 rows (approximately, which can vary depending on the number of columns) https://academy.bpmonline.com/documents/base/7-13/how-prepare-file?docu…;. However, it has also been mentioned in other community posts that there is a 10K rows limit and also a 10MB file size limit.

Also, how does the [Maximum number of records to import from Excel] system setting play into this?

Just wanting to get the official file size & row limits before I start preparing some files for a large import. Thank you.

Dear Ryan,

[Maximum number of records to import from Excel] system setting is not connected to Import process. It sets amount of records users can export via one file and does not impact import amount. Import amount depends on many variables and this is why we do not recommend to import *approximately* 50,000 rows. Since import affect system performance and file size varies due to the data it stores it is almost impossible to provide exact calculations and limitations. If your file has 49,999 rows we cannot guarantee that it will be imported successfully even thought there are less than 50,000 rows. In such cases we recommend to either divide the file or use web-services to import the data.

Angela Reyes,

Thank you.

How would I know if my file exceeds the limits for size/rows? Does it tell me before it starts? Or would I see this in the import log lookup - in which case would it not import any or import what it could? Or does it just fail the entire import?

Ryan Farley,

You will see error message in the Import log - it will show you which records were imported and which not.

Angela Reyes,

Thank you!
