Is it possible to have a lookup field created on a custom object that allows association to any of the organizational roles? It should behave similar to an owner lookup but display the available organization roles in the system. Hopefully there is a table that contains the list of available Organization roles that we can link to.
To be clear, this lookup is not meant to control security. It is just meant to indicate the Organization group(like Account Department or Sales Department) that maintains the record information.

You can create absolutely new lookup in the list of "Lookups", for example "Organization group maintainer", fill this lookup with those values that are needed in your business proposes and after that create a lookup on the page via "Section wizard" and bind it to the created lookup in the "Lookups" list. As a result you can choose values from this lookup and they will be displayed on the page.
