Question

Portal Stuck in Read-Only Mode from License Exceeded

According to the documentation here, if you add more sections, or objects on a page than what your portal license allows, the portal goes into read-only mode.

I am testing portal functionality in a trial system. I intentionally added more sections than allowed by the license. As expected, the portal went into read-only mode and I got a message at the bottom of all pages indicating it was in read-only mode.

The only issue is that I can't get it out of read-only mode. I removed the additional portal sections, but it stays in read-only mode. I've even deleted all sections from the portal except Cases and it stays in read-only mode, even though I am logging in with users with customer portal license (also tried users with partner portal license as well).

How do I get the portal out of read-only mode?

When I did testing on this a while ago, I saw this same issue, Ryan. I came back later and the Read Only went away. I figured out what to do. When you add a section to the Portal list in the workplace setup, you create a new page specifically for the portal. The section wizard, in the background, also sets the flag called "Is object available as section on SSP". So even if you delete the section from the Portal workplace, this flag will still be set. Go into the advanced settings, go to the object, open the All properties tab for the object, uncheck the flag, save, update the database structure. I did that and it took off the read only mode.

Dear Ryan,

That happens due to the incorrect portal license. They have a couple of different types and you need the specific one. I suggest you to contact the support team via support@creatio.com to check with them which licenses you have and which would you need to get the portal out of read-only mode.

Dean Parrett,

This is in a trial system with partner, customer, and ssp licenses. I am testing with a user with both customer and partner portal license.

I added 3 custom sections to the portal.

My user with customer portal license could use my 3 custom sections just fine. I then added a 4th section, the portal goes into read-only mode (as expected). So, I removed the 4th section, so it is back to how it was previously, and it still remains in read-only mode.

My user with partner portal license could previously use my 3 custom sections, however, once it went into read-only mode for my user with customer portal license (mentioned above) it also went into read-only mode for this user with partner portal license, even though the number of sections does not exceed this user's license type.

Additionally, since then, I've removed *all* sections except for cases and it remains in read-only mode for users with ssp, customer, and partner portal licenses. Once it went into read-only mode for one user, it was read-only mode for all users, even users with licenses that allow for more sections. Plus, once in read-only mode, removing the extra sections so you're within the allowed sections for the license being used. it does not stop being in read-only mode.

Ryan

This is all reproducible. I created a new trial system and created two portal users:

  • usercustomer - customer portal license
  • userpartner - partner portal license

I then added 3 custom sections, set the object permissions for access by all portal users, then added them to the portal workspace.

I log in as usercustomer and can see the three custom sections. All works, nothing is read-only.

I log in as userpartner and can see the three custom sections. All works, nothing is read-only.

I then add one more custom section to the portal (the 4th section)

I log in as usercustomer and can see the 4 sections, the portal is all read-only (as expected)

I log in as userpartner and can see the 4 sections, the portal is all read-only - even though this user has a partner portal license and should be able to have more than 3 sections

Now, I remove the 4th section from the portal workspace and also remove the sections objects from the "List of objects available for portal users" lookup.

I log in as usercustomer and can see only the three original sections, however, it is all still read-only.

I log in as userpartner and can see only the three original sections, however, it is all still read-only.

Once it goes into read-only mode, there does not appear to be a way to get it out of read-only mode, even if you bring things back within the license limitations. Also, if it goes into read-only mode for one user, it seems to go into read-only mode for all users, even for users with a license that allows for more sections.

Dear Ryan,

I've created 4 sections as well and tried to access the portal under with customer portal license http://prntscr.com/rb88a7 but I do not have the reading mode http://prntscr.com/rb88q2 No issues with the partner license or self-service license under different users.

I suggest you to contact the support team to investigate the issue in your particular trial instance.

Reid Burger,

Reid, that did it. Thanks so much for the reply. That was driving me crazy.
